Artist Statement : "Thunderbirds are giant birds which were reputed to hunt whales off the west coast of British Columbia. They are often accompanied by lightning snakes which appear at the bottom of this design. This design is a superb example of the use of fluid form lines in the contemporary Nuu-chah-nulth style. It is executed within the confined space of a drum head which was painted for ceremonial use.
