Val Stickings is an Ojibwe woman, born in 1962 in Rainy River, Northern Ontario. She grew up along Lake Huran, and eventually moved to Victoria followed by her family.
She learned the Northwest Coast style working with Joe Peter, Patrick Amos, Tony Hunt Jr., Tim Paul and Gene Brabant. She has been carving for many years and designed a Northwest logo for the B.C. Association of Native Friendship Centres. She does do other drawings, particularly realistic pictures of birds of prey. This interest relates back to her Ojibwe heritage.
