Known as the people of the Nass River, the Nisga'a Nation have become the people they are today through their sustenance and mutual interdependency with the resources of the Nass River Valley. The four Nisga'a tribes: Eagle (Laxsgiik), Killer whale (Gisk'aast), Raven (Ganada) and Wolf (Laxgibuu) are represented by the Nisga'a Lisims government. They occupy the four villages of New Aiyanash, Gingolx, Gitwinksihlkw and Laxgalts'ap while also living in the larger cities of Vancouver, Prince Rupert, Terrace and across North America. 1

The University of Victoria's Art Collections has several prints and carvings that come from artists who identify as part of the Nisga'a community. This includes Norman Tait from the village of Kincolith on the Nass River, Tlingit/ Tsimshian/ Nisga'a artist Michael Dangeli or Goothl T'similx and Nisga'a/ Haida artist Wayne Young who was born in Prince Rupert.
