The Lummi Nation is a Coast Salish people, located on the Northern end of Washington DC and the southern coastal areas of British Columbia. They call themselves Lhaq'temish which means 'people of the sea'. 1
The language attributed to the Lummi people is a dialect known broadly as Northern Straits Salish or SENĆOŦEN. However, this term is incorrect as the peoples who speak in this particular language have a different name for it in each dialect. The Lummi dialect of this language is now thought of as a sleeping language. 2
Many of Lummi/ Tsawout artist Doug LaFortune's prints can be found in the University of Victoria's Art Collections.
