Salish refers to a large designation of a group of peoples in the Salishan language family, which includes peoples in Southern British Columbia, Washington State, Oregon, Montana and Idaho. The Salishan language is split into the Coast Salish languages and the Interior Salish languages. Nuxálk (Nuxálk Nation in Bella Coola) however is a language in this family that differs significantly from both the Coast and Interior subgroups. 1
