The Mi'kmaq peoples are part of the Algonquian language group located in the Maritime Provinces, such as Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland. Souvenir objects, such as birch bark baskets and porcupine quillwork have been a major trade market for the Mi'kmaq peoples, especially women. 1

The University of Victoria Art Collections house a cedar bask that is attributed to the Mi'kmaq peoples.
