Artist Statement : "This design is my own interpretation of a Kwagulth Sun mask. It is a blend of Kwagulth and Salish design elements. The protruding beak is a common feature of Sun masks. I am presently researching my lineage and have discovered that my grandfather's great grandmother - Swunemia - was born to a Kwagulth chief in Alert Bay. This image came to me in a dream one night and I was compelled to get up and draw."
