Visual Description : Primitive animal-like figure balanced upon a landscape. Simple, flowing lines done in scrafitto upon clay outline the shape. The German translation of the title "Bird Teachings" is also carved into the surface: "vogel" is written along the left edge of the image (the letters appear top to bottom); "lehre" on the right edge. A light blue wash is the dominant colour: the bird shape is a sienna hue as well as small sections seen in the landscape which is primarily an off-white tone.
