Artist Statement : The sun is the personal emblem of the chiefs and is involved in several legends. Because it is a family crest figure it is displayed in the winter Klasila dances as part of a family's dloogwi, or box of treasures. Eugene originally painted this design on a hexagonal tambourine style drum. (Statement provided by Pacific Editions)
