Artist Statement :
"The wily looking Killerwhale in Salish legend is the character who ate up the salmon in the bay where I come from, preventing the people from the bountiful harvest of the salmon run. Thunderbird was called upon and carried the whale away to eat him on a mountaintop.
In this picture I put a face in the tail which seems to be grinning. I learned this from my old, close relation and mentor, the late Simon Charlie, as well as the circular shapes in the backbone area which he remembers seeing back in the 50's."
