Artist Statement :
"I have friends whose relatives were the keepers of the lighthouse and weather station on TRIAL ISLAND which allowed me a number of opportunities to visit. As we sat one day and visited over coffee, I was struck by the familiarity of the ocean view and the isolation from the city. I realized that veing isolated from city life felt food to me, and so I enjoyed Trail Island even more. Another visit found me in the centre of a pod orcas and the thrill of being so close to these animals, as I had been before was exhilarating. The scene of the canoe and the killer whales was inspired by a photograph that a friend had taken from his equally thrilling encounter. Thank you Phil!" R.H.V. March 1988. Eagle Aerie Gallery.
