Artist Statement : Although not a common crest figure, the blue heron historically was illustrated in many forms in the art of the Kwakiutl people and was regularly portrayed by costumed figures in the winter dances. Beau Dick's style continues to evolve and develop with this print. The outstretched wings in a long format accurately portray the impressive size of the heron.
