Artist Statement : "The original concept for this design was commissioned as a sand-blasted plate glass panel and reworked as a smaller painted original. I wanted to portray an Orca family as I have seen them in Johnstone Straits, in a contemporary format but using traditional Kwaguilth design elements on the Killer Whale bodies and fins. The artistic challenge was creating the sense of movement but maintaining traditional form and using realistic colours with were also acceptable to traditional southern style. - John Livingston "The inspiration for part of this print was a previous design by Jim Gilbert."
